Our Story

Welcome to The Naked Acre Homestead.

We are a next-generation poultry, waterfowl, and gamebird homestead run by two gay husbands building a farm from the ground up. Sometimes clothed, sometimes not, always real!

Based in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia, The Naked Acre Homestead documents the realities of modern homesteading: hatching birds, raising animals, building infrastructure, making mistakes, learning fast, and doing the work ourselves. There’s no farm cosplay here and no polished perfection, just honest, hands-on living and a willingness to show the process as it actually is.

Our acre is home to a loud, diverse, and ever-evolving mix of animals including poultry, waterfowl, dogs, cats, rabbits, and a few unexpected species that keep things interesting. What began as a blank, newly built one-acre lot has grown into a functioning homestead shaped by curiosity, grit, and a lot of trial and error.

We’re proudly queer, Canadian-Bahamian, and committed to proving that agriculture has room for diversity, humour, and new voices.

Our Story

Liam is a Royal Canadian Navy veteran from Nova Scotia and a children’s book writer with a deep interest in education, conservation, and community. Jesse is from the Bahamas and came to Canada as an international student studying Social Justice and Community Studies.

We met by pure happenstance, on a clothing-optional beach, no less, and that unexpected moment ended up shaping everything that followed, including the name of our farm. Since then, we’ve lived across the country and back, gotten married, and eventually put down roots in Nova Scotia by purchasing our first home together.

That home came with a naked acre of land, unfinished, undeveloped, and full of potential. What you see today is the result of building a homestead from scratch, learning as we go, and choosing to document both the wins and the messy middle.

Our Goals

Our work is guided by three core goals:

1. Livestock conservation focusing on heritage and rare poultry and waterfowl.

2. Education and entertainment using honest storytelling to make farming more accessible and engaging.

3. Sustainability and growth continuously improving the health, efficiency, and resilience of our farm.

The Naked Acre Homestead is about doing things differently, thoughtfully, transparently, and with room for laughter. We’re building something real, one bird, one structure, and one season at a time.
