The Peacocks

Peafowl (Black Shoulder Peacocks)

Breed Overview

Peafowl are among the most visually striking ornamental birds kept on homesteads worldwide. Native to South Asia, they have been domesticated for centuries for their beauty, presence, and natural alertness. Peafowl are large, ground-dwelling birds that thrive in spacious environments where they can forage, perch, and display natural behaviours.

The Black Shoulder Peacock is a colour mutation of the Indian Blue peafowl. Unlike traditional Indian Blues, Black Shoulder peafowl have a contrasting wing pattern, with dark shoulder feathers that sharply set off the rest of the body. Males are known for their impressive trains and courtship displays, while females are more subtly patterned but equally elegant.

Peafowl are hardy birds when given adequate space, shelter from extreme weather, and protection from predators. They are strong foragers, consume a varied omnivorous diet, and are long-lived compared to many poultry species.

Our Peafowl

Our peafowl program is in its early stages. We currently have two Black Shoulder peacocks, selected for sound structure, coloration, and overall health.

Our Focus

At this time, our goal is to establish a stable, healthy peafowl flock with strong genetics and good temperament. As the flock matures, we plan to carefully expand and, in the future, offer peafowl to others looking to add well-raised ornamental birds to their homestead or aviary. Quality, welfare, and responsible breeding will remain our priorities as the program develops.
